From a newly built observation wall along the Ledeganckkaai in Antwerp, the film explores how urban development frames the river as a passive backdrop where commerce, perspective, and control come together. As the film unfolds, this structured gaze begins to falter: the camera stutters, images glitch, and the essayistic voice gradually gives way to a speculative narrative told from the slippery, vital mud on which the city is built.
The accompanying audio walk, developed specifically for The Image Generator, extends the ideas of the film into the neighbourhood around Kunsthal Extra City. This sensory walk follows part of the Herentalse Vaart. This lost body of water forms the starting point for a speculative future scenario, in which climate change challenges the boundaries of a dry and controllable city.
The film was produced with support of the Centre for Visuals Arts Rotterdam.
