Volcanic action produces a variety of sounds and many of those sounds are below the frequency limit of human hearing. Van Welden uses the different volcano acoustics to produce a column of ash. The column is linked to a real eruption by creating a MIDI composition for low frequency in honor of a specific eruption. The first, created in 2017 for the Saint Michael Church of Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege in Brussels, is called ‘Mt. Saint Helens 1980’.
