First composed in 2018 as a 63-page performance score, 'Deadtime' has since evolved into a series of performances, sound works, and installations presented internationally. Across these site-responsive iterations, Spooner explored the effects of chronological timekeeping on our bodies, minds, and emotions. In 'Deadtime', Spooner’s interest lies in the slippery notion of performance, both as a means of tracking one’s personal development in society and as a neutral descriptor in contemporary art, as well as the possibility of resisting this through an alternative time that is, ostensibly, dead.
Presented as part of The Image Generator, 'Deadtime Funeral' marks a final chapter for the project. Conceived for the church of Kunsthal Extra City, it imagines the end, and possible afterlife, of 'Deadtime', where the work persists as a ghostly sonic presence.
